Still making this but I have enjoyed it so far. This is my first beaded project and I found the directions clear.
FAQs
Is this bead crochet?
No, it's not bead crochet. My designs are made using a mix of different bead weaving techniques like peyote, circular beading, and brick stitch and sometimes even a few of my own methods.
Each pattern includes step-by-step illustrated instructions so you can easily follow along and recreate the piece.
Do you provide video tutorials with the patterns?
All of my patterns come as PDFs with detailed step-by-step illustrations and some of them, including the beaded fish, come with supplementary video tutorials. The videos are linked directly on the PDF pattern.
They’re designed to be as clear and easy to follow as possible.
Where do you find your supplies?
Here's a link to most of the supplies I use in my beading projects.
Some Miyuki 11/0 colors are not available there and need to be sourced on pandahall.com or at your local craft stores.
What beads do you use?
I mostly work with Miyuki Rocailles Seed Beads (not Delicas) in size 11/0, usually in transparent or luster finishes. These beads have a beautiful light reflection and a soft shine that make each piece sparkle just right ✨
Other brands like Toho also work great, as long as the rocailles beads are very uniform in size and shape.
What thread do you use?
I use Miyuki 330 dtex 100% nylon thread.
Here are a few great alternatives I also like:
- KO (made by Miyuki) or One-G (by Toho)
- Nymo
- FireLine or DuraThread
Whatever you choose, make sure the thread is thin enough to pass through your beads several times and strong enough not to fray easily.
What beading needle do you use?
I use Miyuki Beading Needles (0.35x51mm) but any standard beading needles do the job!
Which pattern should I start with as a beginner?
I recommend starting with the Beaded Fish or Mini Fish pattern. These include detailed step‑by‑step instructions and several supplementary videos that walk you through the basic stitches used in my other beading patterns, so they are a very beginner‑friendly introduction.
Can I sell the creations I make with your patterns?
Yes, absolutely, you can sell the finished pieces you make using my patterns.
All I ask is that you don’t resell, redistribute, or share the patterns themselves (including screenshots or copies), and please credit the design to me if someone asks where it’s from 🌸
Is mindofjulia the same person as handsofjulia?
Yes, it’s the same person: me, Julia. ☀️mindofjulia is the name I use for my educational content, and handsofjulia is the name I use for my handcrafts and beading patterns. I’m gradually moving all handcraft‑related things under the handsofjulia name so it’s easier to recognize my shop and patterns.
